    Attitudes

    A delectable Menu
Food is  one of our major attractions; at any time, any where, under any
circumstances we can enjoy good food. The menu given below contains a number
of items of food that are relished by certain societies. The same items, sometimes,
cause  nausea among certain other groups. If everything is given to you in a platter,
what are the items you would like to taste?
  • Snails—Very popular in France  and is considered a  delicacy.
  • Dog meat—Very popular in Korea. Legislation was introduced recently to
allow the restaurants in Korea    to serve dog meat during the Football World Cup.
  • Serpents—Certain kinds of serpents are consumed as  a delicacy in certain
    countries including Korea.
  • Frogs—It is a delicacy in certain countries in Europe,   specially in France.
  • Beef—Beef is relished in certain countries.    But is not very popular in the
countries where Hinduism   is a popular religions.
  • Pork—Certain communities makes an attempt even to keep off from the
    animals.

Question: Why do you think that certain kinds of foods that are relished by certain
groups, are not being considered good enough for consumption by some others?
We asked this question at our seminars on mind  control and  the majority of the
participants agreed that the main  cause is ATTITUDES.

Answer: The answers given by different groups differ. But most of them do not
conform to accepted principles of logic. Some of them think it is the religion.

    What are attitudes?
An attitude is a belief that you seldom question. Attitudes are based on values and
are given to you either by your parents or by your  teachers. Most of our attitudes
come to us from our own environment: The mass media is the main vendor of
attitudes. The main function of the advertising industry is to make you believe that
certain products or services are necessary for you. You could enhance your levels of
happiness by either purchasing, owning or using happy products.

    How do you classify attitudes?
Attitudes can be classified in several ways: useful, harmful, dangerous, good and
bad are a some ways of classifying  them. A lot of other adjectives can be used.

    A Himalayan Task
Recently  Reuters News Agency reported that a blind man has conquered the Mount
Everest, the highest point in the world. Can this story be useful to us for our analysis?

Question No. 2: When you and I cannot move about in our own house, with our
eyes blind-folded, how can a blind man PLAN, DECIDE, UNDERTAKE and
successfully CONQUER the tallest mountain in the world? What is your answer?

Question No. 3 Would you like to join  a team that is planning to conquer the Mount
Everest, next season? All the finances required will be  made available to you free.
If your answer is No, before saying  that no please jot down the reasons why you
cannot join. After that, you might be able to analyze whether you can justify them.
Can your reasons be really justified? Or,  is your list  a statement of wrong,
unquestioned or untested beliefs? If you would like to say Yes, please analyze the
reasons. That was about the positive side of attitudes.

We sometimes, make decisions based on assumptions or beliefs, which we have not
tested. We follow or emulate others without doing our own thinking, just to satisfy
our cravings In some of the backward societies, we sometimes observe the
syndrome now known as can’t and don’t have. That means that they do not have the
resources or the contacts or the knowledge necessary to move up, and therefore
they cannot move up the social ladder.

The difference is the way of looking at, or we can call it an attitude of mind. The
blind man who conquered the Mount Everest is a good example.

    Can attitudes be changed?
Yes. It is possible to change the attitudes of any person. Our research in this field and
our seminars to change the attitudes of people at all levels have confirmed that
It is possible to change he attitudes of people. How?

Brain washing. In recent years brain washing  has become very popular.
Religious groups, terrorist organizations, political parties and even some state
sector organizations resort to  brain washing and use this technology to get
conformation from certain types of  individuals. How it is done, differs from
    one organization to the other.

Change the environment: If your  friend is refusing to eat dog meat because
she has a pet dog in her home, will she taste dog meat if she goes to Korea
and work in a restaurant that serves dog meat. The probability that she might
taste it is very high. Environment is the main factor that contributes to help
    you change your attitudes.

Change life objectives: If you decide today that you must be a billionaire
within the next five years, it is absolutely necessary that you should evaluate
your attitudes towards work, leisure, entertainment and even sleeping. Your
attitudes regarding food  and even exercises should be evaluated with the
objective of finding  out  more time for your future plans.

Training: All educational institutes while  planning a new course of studies
determines the attitudinal and behavioral changes that are expected of the
students. The main objective of education is to change attitudinal and
behavioral patters. If you follow a course of studies either in Karate or in
Meditation, it involves certain changes in your attitudes without which you
    cannot master the subject.

Mass media: When you watch television, listen to radio or read books,
magazines and news papers, you expose yourself to the points of view of
others, things that happen in and around you or  in their environments. Some
publications explicitly state their objectives, which normally includes
changing the attitudes of their readers. It is rather difficult these days to save
ourselves from the advertising campaigns which are designed to change the
attitudes of the general public. One of the main objective of this project  is
also to help you change your attitudes.

Emotions: Emotions generated as a result of our associations with the environment in
which you live people, events, things or concepts can change our attitudes. When a
young person falls in love with some one for the first time, his or her set of attitudes is
completely transformed. So is anger, hatred or even envy.

Personal Experience: Individuals gather new experiences every second. A
simple experience such as an accident or even personal sickness such as heart surgery
could change the attitudes of a  person. The new experience that the people have
acquired after the tsunami wave in the Indian Ocean have  helped most of the people to
    acquire different types of attitudes.

Age: People change their attitudes towards life when they gather experience
in the university of life. Cultivating useful and positive attitudes is a must for a  person
who is planning to be successful, healthy and happy. The attitudes of people change
    when they age.

    Cultivating useful attitudes

An attitude is a belief, and if you want to cultivate a new attitude it should be
something that you should be able to believe and are comfortable with. It should be
done with a clear understanding of what you need. If you are planning to cultivate a
new attitude, what is the best way to start?

The first step is to identify an attitude which you are planning to cultivate.
Commit it to writing or use an icon to remind you about your new attitude and
place it in a location that you cannot miss it on a regular basis. The reason  is that it
should be your supreme objective and you should be conscious of it throughout.

Do whatever you can to remind you about the new attitude, without allowing it
to be forgotten. It is reported that Kathy Freeman, the Australian Olympic Gold
Medalist at Sydney Olympics, was requested by her  mother to write the following
sentence several times every day.“I will be the greatest athlete in the world.”

When you see your new  resolution  constantly it will get into the subconscious
mind and  will automatically guide your behavioral patterns.

Justify it: The basic truth is that you cannot be happy, unless you are healthy.

    Acquiring a new attitude
Now let us look at the process of acquiring a new attitude. The new attitude: Health is
supreme If you are successful in getting this belief transformed as an attitude, it will
result  in substantial changes in your behavioral patterns.  In this case, the expected
    changes are, that you will:
  • Be careful in what you eat and drink
  • Be more health conscious
  • Take care to see that the environment you live is clean  and healthy.
  • Take more time to keep your body healthy by taking  regular exercises.
  • Avoid or reduce unhealthy  foods, alcohol or drugs.
  • Be punctual about your meal times and habits.
  • Take preventive measures to reduce the chances of  getting any
    infections from out  or accidents.
  • Live longer
  • Reduce the time and money you will spend on seeking   professional
    medical services and medicines.
  • You will be stronger and able to participate in your day to day
activities with  much vigor and efficiency.
  • You will enhance your levels and quality of happiness.
  • You will be able to work for long hours on a regular basis.

    Conclusion
It is high time that you should take stock of all your attitudes that prevent you
from moving towards success or to the perceived state of your kingdom of
happiness. It will be useful to look at the following .

Among the most under privileged groups,  there are the people who dare take
certain decisions which you and I cannot even believe. Cultivating a
new attitude or a change in an attitude is a change that will be
registered in the subconscious mind. It  will also change your
    behavioral patters..

Unless you change your attitude about happiness, it is rather
difficult to reach that Kingdom of Happiness
